Democratic National Convention

We are so thrilled and honored to share American Family | A Film About Freedom, directed by renowned photographer Platon and our very own CEO Scott Dadich. The film premiered Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the Democratic National Convention, where the theme of the third night was freedom.

In a single action-packed week, against all odds, we produced a film from start to finish. We interviewed and filmed an incredible range of volunteers, from families of all kinds—traditional, LGBTQ+, and chosen families—to individuals from every walk of life. Their words reveal the diversity and richness of our nation, and they show that freedom is not just a concept. It’s a reality we all live, cherish, and fight for every day.

Much like the Harris-Walz campaign itself, the film came together on a moment’s notice, and its success is a testament to the intense dedication and immense talent of the team that made it happen. From casting to contracts, production to the final edit, we had less than two weeks from the time the DNC commissioned the film to its primetime premiere.

The goal from the start was to reflect the full spectrum of the American experience, united by an unswerving belief in freedom and democracy. Political discourse often insists on too-narrow definitions of "freedom," and "family." But freedom isn’t just a talking point, and family isn’t just one thing. They’re both complex, expansive, and deeply personal realities that belong to everyone, no matter who we are or where we come from.

Our goal was to pay tribute to the countless ways freedom animates our lives—how we dream, how we hope, and how we strive to live as Americans. We are profoundly grateful to those who chose to share their stories, and we hope you see yourself in this film because it’s truly a reflection of America—of all of us.
